QR Code Menu for Italian Restaurants

By Tuğberk Can ÖzenPublished 5 November 20263 min read

TL;DRAn Italian menu is long: antipasti, pasta, a main, dolci, coffee, and a wine list that is a menu of its own. On paper that length is a booklet. On a phone it has to be sections a guest can jump, with the price still visible next to the dish. A single photographed PDF makes them pinch and zoom through four courses.

The sample is the Italian menu, a fictional restaurant. Pizza, three pastas, three mains, two desserts, coffee. The names in the sample are the sample's, not a requirement to write the menu in Italian. The setup is a digital menu for restaurants.

Courses a guest can jump

One section per course, named the way your floor already says it. A guest looking for pasta should not scroll the pizzas to find it. The phone menu can list the sections so they jump. Keep each dish to the ingredients that distinguish it. “Tomato, mozzarella, basil” is the dish. A paragraph on the region is optional and usually too long for the first screen.

Put the wine list in the same menu or in a second menu the restaurant also publishes. Glass and bottle are variants. Producer, grapes and vintage have fields. Fill them when you know them. A wine list typed into a PDF and a food menu typed into another file will disagree the week you change a glass pour.

Specials and the dish that sells out

A fish that depends on the market should be a dish you can mark sold out, or a section you update that morning and publish. Do not leave “market price” on a QR menu. The guest scanned to see the price. If you do not know it yet, the dish is not ready.

Lunch and dinner can switch on a schedule in the restaurant's time zone. The code in the menu cover stays. If both services share most of the menu, one menu with a short lunch section is simpler than two menus you have to remember to update.

The booklet and the phone

A multi-column print menu still suits a dining room that wants paper. Export it from the same courses. The price has its own column, including a four-digit price on a steak, and a two-line description stays out from under that price. That is a property of the print layouts, not a hope.

Turn photos on only for a few dishes. A photo on every pasta makes a long menu longer. The sample is selective. Allergen marks, especially gluten, milk, egg, fish and sulphites on the wine, belong on the dish. The US note is allergen labels, and it is not legal advice.

Preview is free. Your PDF is paid: $29 a month or $199 a year. Printable menus lists the formats, including US Letter.

Start from the Italian design

Open the sample and read it as a guest would, on a phone. Start from that design or import your booklet. An import of up to 150 items still needs you to fix course names, wine vintages and any price the file misread.

Publish, print the code into the menu or a table tent, and paste the menu address into Google Business Profile if Maps should open this page rather than an old PDF. We do not write your dishes into Google's menu editor. A ranking is not included.

Price a dish from the plate when the cost moves. The food cost calculator does the division. A shorter menu in a different design is the Japanese sample.

Frequently asked questions

Can the wine list be its own menu?

Yes. One subscription covers the venue's menus, not a single list. Each menu can have its own QR code.

Do I have to keep the Italian dish names?

No. The sample is fictional. Write the names you want guests to read. You can also publish a translation you have checked.

Will the paper menu match the phone?

Yes, if you export the PDF from the published menu. A booklet you keep editing in another program will not.
