Popmenu alternatives for independent restaurants
TL;DRPopmenu alternatives are worth a look when you want the phone menu, the paper menu and a page Google can read, and you do not want a restaurant marketing suite. DigitalMenuKit is that narrower product. It costs $29 a month or $199 a year per venue. Popmenu is priced as a platform for the website, online ordering and campaigns.
This page compares the two on price, a free plan, a Google menu link, print PDFs and languages. A search for Popmenu competitors is the same comparison. It is not a ranking. Popmenu is the better fit for some restaurants, and those cases are spelled out below. Confirm any competitor figure with that company before you buy. Popmenu does not publish a price list; the numbers here are 2026 reports.
DigitalMenuKit vs Popmenu
| DigitalMenuKit | Popmenu | |
|---|---|---|
| Published price | $29 a month or $199 a year per venue. Both plans include the same features. There is no setup fee and no charge per scan. | Reported in 2026 at $179, $299 and $499 a month, or about $159, $269 and $449 on a yearly term. Online ordering has been reported at $1 an order. Popmenu does not publish a price list. |
| Free plan | No free published menu. You can build and preview the whole menu before you pay. Publishing is the paid plan. The QR code generator is free and does not host a menu. | No free plan appears in those reported prices. |
| Google menu link | The published menu has its own address, and each dish has a page. You paste that menu address into Google Business Profile. DigitalMenuKit does not sign in to Google and does not fill Google's menu editor. | Popmenu advertises Google Business Profile sync as part of the platform. We have not re-tested that sync. DigitalMenuKit does not offer it. |
| Print PDF | Yes. Print-ready PDFs come from the same menu, on the paid plan. You can preview the templates without paying. Downloading your own PDF is part of the paid plan. | Not confirmed from the prices we checked. Do not treat a blank as a no. |
| Languages | 62 content languages, included in the plan. You write or paste each translation and check it. Translation is not automatic. | Not stated in the 2026 figures we used. |
Read the price row as a budget test, not as a feature score. Popmenu's reported starting price is several times $29. That gap is real only if both products would actually do the job you need. For many independent restaurants they would not.
Where Popmenu is the better fit
Choose Popmenu if you want one vendor for the website, online ordering, email and text campaigns, and an advertised sync into Google Business Profile, and the reported budget fits. DigitalMenuKit does not build a marketing site, does not take orders, and does not take guest payments.
Choose Popmenu if you want dishes pushed into Google's own menu editor. DigitalMenuKit will not do that. It gives you a menu address to paste into the menu link on your profile. The steps, and the limit, are in how to add your menu to Google Business Profile. Anyone who promises a Maps ranking from either product is guessing.
Where a menu product is enough
Choose DigitalMenuKit if the job is one menu that stays in agreement with itself. Guests who scan the QR code menu and guests who open a dish page see the price you last published. The printable menu is exported from that same menu, so the paper is a download, not a second copy you retype.
Building and previewing are free. You pay when you publish, $29 a month or $199 a year, $149 less than twelve months at the monthly price. There is no trial period, because the preview is the thing you use to decide. Cancel from the panel. The menu stays up until the end of the period you paid for.
Languages are included: 62 content languages, written by you. Allergen marks sit on each dish. Staff can mark a dish sold out with a PIN that cannot see prices. None of that adds a second invoice.
What neither number tells you
A lower price is not a saving if you then buy ordering somewhere else, and a higher price is not a waste if you would have hired that work out. Write down the jobs you need this quarter: a menu guests can open, a PDF for the printer, a link for Google, or a site that also takes orders.
If ordering and a website are on that list, price Popmenu against that list, not against a menu tool. If they are not, see what DigitalMenuKit costs and create the menu only after the preview looks like your restaurant. Other published comparisons are MENU TIGER and Menubly.
Frequently asked questions
Does DigitalMenuKit replace a Popmenu website?
No. It hosts the menu. You link to it from a site you already have, or you put the menu on your own domain. It does not run campaigns or online ordering.
Will my menu show up on Google Maps by itself?
No. You paste the published menu address into Google Business Profile. Indexing takes days to weeks, and a ranking is not a promise.
Can I move a menu I already have?
Yes. Import a PDF, a photo, a spreadsheet or the page where the menu is published now. You check the draft. Nothing is public until you publish.
Preview is free. Publishing is $29 a month.
